Daughters of the King
is a religious order of lay and ordained women whose Rule of Life includes
prayer, service, and evangelism. The DOK at Grace Church meet weekly to pray
together and study the Scriptures. As one piece of their prayer life, the women
also meet together once monthly for prayers and meditations using the Anglican
Rosary. A member of the parish clergy serves as chaplain to the DOK, meeting
with them for spiritual guidance, pastoral care and counseling, and theological
contribution to their Rule. For additional information about Daughters of the
King, contact the rector, David Peeples, or the church office.
Cursillo (“Little Course”) is a three-day retreat of spiritual renewal that offers opportunities for enriching the lives of laity and discerning their gifts for service to the Church. In the Diocese of Alabama, there are five Cursillo weekends each year at our beautiful diocesan camp located in Nauvoo, near Jasper, about an hour north of Birmingham. For additional information about Cursillo, call the church office. Lay Weeders Gardening Guild includes individuals or families who volunteer to adopt a garden maintenance task or a section of our beautiful gardens to nurture and maintain. The garden work is a wonderful ministry to the Church and the community outside the Church who visit our gardens each year for the opportunity to spend quiet time reflecting in the midst of God’s outdoor beauty. For additional information about the guild opportunities, contact the church office. Supper Clubs are an opportunity for individuals, couples, and families to meet together socially for fellowship and feasting. There are a variety of clubs ranging from the “Hamburglers” to Families with Small Children. For additional information about the various clubs available and their meeting times, call the church office. EYC (Episcopal Youth of the Church) is open to all children in grades seven through twelve and provides opportunities for service, ministry, study, and fellowship throughout the year. For additional information about meeting times and places, check the newsletter or call the church office. ECW (Episcopal Church Women) is open to all women in the Church and meets for fellowship and service projects throughout the year. Past years’ projects have included furnishing the altar and sacristy and organizing the Rummage Sale and English Country Afternoon. For additional information, call the church office. Altar Guild members are the sacristans of the parish, caring for the altar, its furnishings and floral arrangements, and the clergy vestments. This ministry of holy devotion provides individuals or two people working together the opportunity to “find our Lord among the pots and pans” (St. Teresa) as well as the opportunity to prayerfully consider the sacred importance of God’s family gathered around the Table for the Feast of the Holy Eucharist. For additional information, call Dale Marshall, or the church office. Wedding Guild members assist the bride and groom in the practical aspects of celebrating their marriage in the church. Because of its garden setting, Grace is a popular site for weddings. To assist in responding to the many requests received each year to use the Church and its Gardens for weddings, a Wedding Customary has been prepared and is available by calling the church office. Book Club meets periodically to discuss selected books. For additional information check the current newsletter or contact the church office. |
